None of My Settings Are Saved When I click Save

I have installed Gary's Cookbook Component 3.0.16.1 on Joomla 1.5.20 whenever I go into the configuration and try to change any of the settings, i.e. the online offline setting, or the introduction text or any of the other selectable options nothing ever saves if I click save or apply.

It is like it always reverts to its original installation. I dont get an error message, I looked for a configuration file, hoping there might be a permissions problem, but I was unable to determine which file I should change the permissions on.

Any help would be appreciated.

The cookbook seems to be saving the config file properly to the com directory but is reading the admin config file when opening the backend settings or running the component from the web site. You have to manually go in and edit the file config.garyscookbook.php in the administrator/components/com_garyscookbook directory.

Hi,

this should be a problem with the permissions. And you've found the file.

You should try to find the problem. As you understand it's not any general problem or bug as the configuration is more or less the heart of this component.

Not sure about that, at least him and I both had the same problem and there is no permission problem here. It writes the config file to:
/components/com_garyscookbook/config.garyscookbook.php
but reads from:
/administrator/components/com_garyscookbook directory/config.garyscookbook.php

It wasn't until I figured out there were copies of the same file in different places that I figured out how to fix the problem. And yes, I am running the latest version 3.0.16.1

Hi dplace,
as I understand you have some knowledge of programming.
Could you please give me an example where a parameterfile in "frontend" is read.

I had a short look in the installation package to be sure that this file is not copied to a wrong directory. As far as I can see it's not. i.e. there shouldn't be any two configuration files. This is true here on this site and on my own localy installed Joomla! test systems (XAMPP). A couple of them.

Did you make any changes?

I made no changes, I first noticed it was wrong when I installed it yesterday and used the back-end control panel settings to make changes. Specifically I changed the $ag_introtext and when I went to the main website it hadn't changed. When I looked in the back-end settings again it was back to default also. I went to the /components/com_garyscookbook/config.garyscookbook.php file it had changed correctly but the changes were not showing up. It took me 3 hours of messing around re-saving etc. to figure out it was saving the config file properly but the web site and back-end settings file were pulling the information from a different file, the /administrator/ directory /administrator/components/com_garyscookbook directory/config.garyscookbook.php config file. Once I modified the file in the administrator directory everything worked. However, I have to modify that file by hand, using settings from inside the control panel still modifies the wrong config file.
